The 15- to 20-ft.-long leaves crowning the wide trunk don’t hide the tiny yellowish brown flowers or
yellow to red fruits. At 40 to 60 ft. tall and 30 to 50 ft. wide, these aren’t trees for small spaces.
These large, slow-growing palms have erect trunks topped with an umbrella of arching,
feather-shaped, coarse, leathery leaves. Trunks become patterned with the bases of old leaf stalks.
Clusters of summer flowers are followed by sometimes edible fruits among green or gray-green leaves.
Like plenty of moisture, but tolerate some drought once established.
